Just before the Galaktion Tabidze Bridge in Marjanishvilli is this traditional restaurant opposite the Kura River. It is a gigantic location with many tables for supras, but also smaller tables. Sometimes the floor shakes as the metro whizzes by under the location and even under the Kura. Shemoikhede Marjanishvilze is an impressive restaurant in classic Georgian style. The restaurant is mostly frequented by locals, but tourists and expats should definitely not miss out on the great food here.

One of the best Restaurants in Tbilisi, Marjanishvili
Shemoikhede Marjanishvilze’s impressive halls and stylishly painted walls give you room to breathe, the perfect place to let yourself go. The down-to-earth Shemoikhede restaurant serves hearty cuisine in the traditional Georgian style. Thanks to the spacious layout, there really is plenty of room here and it never gets too crowded. There is nothing to hide here and you get a deep insight into what is happening in the kitchen. The memory of most of the waiters is fascinating, nothing is written down here, the friendly staff simply remember everything and rarely forget anything.
The culinary specialists at Shemoikhede in Tbilisi
You pay a conscientious tribute to Georgian cuisine here and always get fresh food, which can take a while in a few cases. Among other things, this is one of the best restaurants in Tbilisi for excellent khinkali, which should not be missing from any order – at least five must be ordered here. In addition to the classic with pork and minced beef, there are khinkali with cheese, mushrooms and also a smaller edition for children. I also recommend the Georgian chicken salad with every order, which is a real specialty here.
Whether it’s Kakhetian pork barbecue, roasted trout, chicken in bazhe, tolma, lobiani or Megrulian khachapuri, it’s impossible to go wrong here. Chvishtari (corn bread with cheese), shoti (traditional Georgian bread), mchadi or the homemade garlic bread – all the breads are freshly baked here and are of the very best quality.
Great Food at a fair Price
Despite the extremely high quality of the food, the prices for Georgian cuisine here are comparatively very low. For an extensive dinner for four people, you can expect to pay between 90 and 120 GEL including wine and several courses. This makes the Shemoikhede Restaurant ideal for exuberant birthday parties or corporate events.
Wine and ChaCha are a must at Shemoikhede Marjanishvilze
Of course, beer is a must at one of the best restaurants in Tbilisi, but it is also worth sampling the selection of Georgian wines. Of course, you will also find Amber Wine, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Even if you’re on a budget, you can get a decent house wine by the glass or liter.
When it comes to bottled wines, the focus is on the typical Georgian classics:
- Pitcher Rqatsileti
- Chkaveri
- Kindzmarauli
- Rkatsiteli
- Tsolikauri
- Tvishi
- Saperavi
Bottle prices start at around 30 GEL. In contrast to many other restaurants in Tbilisi, they are generally customer-friendly and charge reasonable prices for wine. As a digestif, you will find an excellent ChaCha matured in oak barrels.
There are also various vodkas on offer here. What they all have in common is that they don’t come from Russia, or have you forgotten? Unfortunately, 20% of Georgia is occupied by war criminals. Non-alcoholic alternatives include Borjomi, Nableghlavi, the typical Georgian lemonades (Taragon, Pear, Cream) and typical side drinks.
The Service at Shemoikhede Marjanishvilze Restaurant
Over the years, the service has improved enormously. When I visited the restaurant for the first time in 2021, I could only order using Google Translate, but now many of the staff speak English and there are no communication problems. The staff here are reserved and friendly, but always professional. They are happy to accommodate special requests. Among other things, I always ask for the dishes I ordered to be served at the same time and not individually – no problem.
Ambience – the epic halls of the Shemoikhede restaurant
When I welcome new guests to Georgia, this location is always a fixed point in my planning alongside Cafe Thearapy, Linville, Stamba and MyChef. It offers a great insight into the cuisine and culture. The impressive paintings on the walls are harmonious and really enhance the location. The tables, benches and chairs are robust and extremely comfortable, where you can enjoy slow food and round off the day with a good wine. The extremely high ceilings and the pleasant temperature at all times of the year are very pleasant.
Our honest conclusion about this Restaurant
I have now visited the restaurant almost 50 times and am always pleasantly surprised. Even some of my guests, who don’t think Georgian food is that great, have been convinced by the variety and possibilities at Shemoikhede of the brilliance of Georgian cuisine with a well-thought-out order. Indians and Chinese will be delighted with the homemade chili garlic oil, which adds a nice spiciness to the dishes. As already mentioned, the fair pricing policy stands out positively. It is best to visit the restaurant in a larger group to sample the large selection.
