Namaste friends of amazing food from India! Today I am pleased to present an insider tip, because for almost 3 years I have been looking for the best Indian restaurant in Tbilisi – and I have found it. After living in India for over 7 years, I naturally miss the high-quality, healthy and pure food there. I was disappointed many times in Sololaki and Marjanishvilli – either the food is low quality or bad and overpriced… until I first discovered Masala Library through Wolt. Even if you’ve never had authentic Indian food, don’t miss this honest review!

Authentic Indian food at a fair price in Tbilisi
I don’t know how many times I’ve ordered from this Indian restaurant online, but I’ve honestly never been disappointed. Just last week, I ventured out with friends, or should I say “humanoid test subjects”. Since I was already convinced by the Masala Library, I chose a crazy Irishman who can’t stand spicy food, an innocent Georgian woman who has never eaten Indian food and the coolest Frank Sinatra cover guy from Tbilisi who thinks he’s Russian. We gave Sunil Soni from Gujarat (North Indian state) a really hard time and put him to the test. Sunil Ji and his team did a great job, more on that in a moment…
The excellent selection of Indian dishes
You might think it’s crazy, but the restaurant in Saburtalo has over 138 dishes and drinks on the menu! To ensure the quality of the extensive menu matches, Sunil has employed many Indian staff from different regions. Most of the dishes on the Masala Library menu come from the North Indian regions of Delhi, Punjab and Gujarat, but there are also dishes from Maharastra, Tabil Nadu, Kashmir and even Indo-Chinese items. With its gigantic selection, the restaurant really deserves the title “library”! I have been ordering the majority of the Masala Library menu for months and can guarantee with conviction: The quality is above average and fascinating! They manage to create an authentic experience with the vegetarian, vegan and meat dishes!
When we visited the restaurant, we of course immediately added a classic to our order list: Butter Chicken originally comes from Delhi. It was invented in the 1950s in the Moti Mahal restaurant – I always use the dish when it comes to rating Indian restaurants. The Masala Library in Tbilisi is the only restaurant where not only the quantity (especially of chicken) is right, but also the taste and the price! We ordered Jeera Rise, Aloo Paranta and Rotis as a side dish – in terms of taste, these correspond to a high-quality and authentic Dhaba in India.
Best Vegetarian Restaurant in Tbilisi? Masala Library rocks!
Unfortunately, due to the small selection of vegetarian food in Tbilisi, I have mutated back into a meat eater. So I was all the more delighted to find a huge selection of vegetarian Indian food in this restaurant. One of my personal highlights is the authentic Gujarati dal, which is best ordered with a roti (Indian bread).
Dal Tadka | A simple but delicious lentil dish spiced up with garlic, onions and spices. |
Palak Paneer | Cubes of tender paneer cheese in a creamy spinach sauce, a classic of Indian cuisine. |
Paneer Chilli Gravy | A fiery combination of paneer cheese, peppers and onions in a spicy gravy. |
Kashmiri Dum Aloo | Small potatoes slowly simmered in an aromatic yogurt saffron gravy, a dish with rich flavor. |
Veg Manchurian Dry | Deep-fried vegetable balls in a spicy-sweet sauce, a popular appetizer from Indo-Chinese cuisine. |
Dear vegans and vegetarians take note – you can’t go wrong if you take your cue from Indian cuisine. This food culture has been established for many years, even if you only order vegan dishes, you will never go hungry thanks to spinach, lentils, spices and many other ingredients!
Pani Puri in Tbilisi?
If you’ve never been to India (or Nepal, they love it too), you probably won’t be familiar with this snack, which is revered as street food. Pani Puri are like little taste explosions in your mouth – you just can’t stop devouring them! The crispy dough balls filled with spicy water, onions, potatoes and a refreshing filling are the perfect snack between meals. Warning: danger of addiction! I had to wait 4 years to finally be reunited with this healthy snack until I discovered the Masala Library in Tbilisi. Again, I was surprised to find that it really tastes authentic to India, I could only find similar quality Indian food in Bangkok, London and Dubai!
I'm afraid of Indian food because it's too spicy?!
Here too, you can’t go wrong with the Masala Library! If you order online via Wolt or are in the restaurant, just let the staff know:
- Not spicy at all
- Little bit spicy 🔥
- Tourist spicy 🔥🔥
- Normal spicy 🔥🔥🔥
- Indian spicy 🔥🔥🔥🔥
- Too much spicy like you want to kill me 🔥🔥💀🔥🔥
Almost the entire Masala Library Menu can be enjoyed without any spiciness at all, without this having a negative effect on the taste! Many people will be surprised to learn that not everyone in India likes spicy food. In vegetarian and non-veg restaurants, it is common to simply order without spicy or with a certain level of spiciness.
All those who say they can’t eat Indian food because it’s too spicy now have no excuse not to eat at this best Indian restaurant in Tbilisi!
Masala Library Restaurant Service and Ambience
Sunil Soni and his team have indeed created a temple for extremely good food. The restaurant reflects minimalist design, because the focus here is on Indian food! The benches are very cozy and inviting. They have deliberately avoided kitschy frills here. Sunil Ji and his team are very helpful and remain cool even in stressful situations.
Joint conclusion - why Masala Library is the best Indian restaurant in Tbilisi 2024
Our meal together in the wonderful location lasted almost 2 hours and everyone was really enthusiastic. The little Georgian girl was thrilled and had several foodgasms. My dear friend, the fake Russian Frank Sinatra clone, was thrilled and also quite taken with the excellent mango lassi. Even Dominik, the free artistic soul from Ireland who starts crying at spicy food, was surprised and even dared to try the rather spicy Gujarat Dal because he liked the other dishes in the Masala Library. I just kept my cool because I know I have excellent taste😎
Whether you’re a carnivore, vegetarian or vegan, whether you like spicy or not. Sunil Ji and his friendly team have succeeded in creating a temple of good Indian taste that leaves nothing to be desired. Don’t miss out on the delicious food and let me know your feedback! Namaste!
