Lisi Lake – an Oasis of relaxation in Tbilisi

Imagine yourself immersed in an arid world with the brilliant aesthetics of the Caucasus. Lisi Lake is located just 17 kilometers from the city center. No city noise, no hustle and bustle, just you and nature with a few turtles, ducks and all your bugs, mosquitoes and cute free-roaming cats. Just kidding, the natural landscape of Lisi Lake is relaxing and invites you to slow down from the city madness! Lisi Lake is a natural paradise and it’s pretty damn big – the entire area covers 0.47 square kilometers! Whether you’re pedalling along the 3-kilometre cycle path or simply soaking up the sun on the beach – you’ll find happiness here. And the best thing? The air up here is so clean you can literally taste it.

Where is Lisi Lake and how do I get there?

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, there are various ways to get to the lake quickly.

However, you should take care not to end up in a traffic jam, especially in spring. On Saturdays and Sundays, this can lead to long waiting times.

What makes Lisi Lake so special?

Lisi Lake is not just a lake, it’s a wonderful natural paradise! Sure, it’s man-made, but that doesn’t detract from its beauty. On the contrary: the mixture of rocky cliffs, rolling hills and green forests makes it a real eye-catcher. And the air? So clear and fresh that you might forget you’re only a stone’s throw away from Tbilisi. Here you’ll come across turtles basking in the sun, foxes scurrying through the undergrowth and all kinds of birds giving you a concert. In short: Lisi Lake is a place where you can unwind and enjoy nature to the full.

Activities at Lisi Lake Tbilisi for every Taste

Especially the “jogger” species, which is unknown in Tbilisi, finds its purpose here. The lake is one of the few areas where you can run undisturbed without being run over by a white Toyota Prius or a Wolt courier. Let’s take a closer look at the most important activities.

Water Sports and swimming Fun

Sure, Lisi Lake is perfect for chilling out, but it has even more to offer! Adrenaline junkies and water rats watch out:

  • Swimming – pack your swimming trunks and jump into the cool water! The lake is clean and refreshing, perfect for cooling off on hot days.
  • Boating – Grab a rowing boat or pedal boat and explore the lake on your own. Romantic as a couple or action-packed with friends – you decide!
  • Hire stations – Don’t worry, you don’t have to lug your own boat with you. There are several rental stations on the lakeshore that will provide you with everything you need. The prices are fair and vary depending on the type of boat and duration.

Sporting activities on Land

Are you afraid of the water and more the type for action on land? No problem, our Lisi Lake has plenty to offer you too:

  • Jogging and cycling – The 3-kilometer circular trail around the lake is perfect for a jog or a relaxed bike ride.
  • Horse riding – Want to explore the surrounding area on horseback? There are riding stables near the lake that offer rides.
  • Cycling – Here you can ride your bike on a real cycle path in Tbilisi (!!!)!
  • Beach volleyball – Show off your skills in the sand! There are several volleyball courts on the beach that can be used free of charge.
  • Outdoor fitness equipment – For those who want to stay fit in their free time, there is outdoor fitness equipment on the lakeshore.
Unbelievable but true: real cycle paths around Lisi Lake

Are you the type to slow down and indulge? Then let Lisi Lake spoil you! Here you will find everything you need for a relaxing day:

  • Picnic spots – Find a cozy spot on the lakeshore and spread out your blanket. Pack a basket with tasty snacks and drinks and enjoy the peace and quiet and the view of the water.

  • Sunbathing on the beach – Just want to unwind and enjoy the sun on your skin? Lisi Lake has a small but fine sandy beach that invites you to sunbathe and relax.
  • Pure nature – listen to the birds singing, watch the ducks swimming and be enchanted by the beauty of the landscape.

Great Cafes, Bars and Restaurants at Lisi Lake Tbilisi

Well, the overpriced Hard Rock Cafe Tbilisi may have closed its doors for good, but you can still find some great eateries here. For junk food fanatics, there are the following chains here to spoil your stomach:

  • Subways
  • Dunkin Donuts
  • Baskin Robbins
  • Lumier’s Chimney Cake

Instead, we recommend supporting the regional businesses there. In contrast to the terrible restaurants at the Sea of Tbilisi, there are three real highlights

In addition to various types of khachapuri and lobiani, they also offer pizza. Tbilisi Lisi Lake Weather and best Time to visit

We all know that the weather in Tbilisi can sometimes be absolutely brilliant, but it can also be really harsh and brutal. Keep in mind that the lake is located at over 500 meters and especially in winter there can be really strong winds. Nevertheless, in good weather conditions, the lake offers activities all year round, let us illustrate this in the following table.

Special warning – Attention Rabies at Lisi Lake!

Unfortunately, we have to address this topic in this article. Rabies is still widespread in Georgia! At Lisi Lake, you may also encounter stray dogs and cats, so exercise caution. Don’t automatically cuddle every animal and keep a close eye on them. If you are bitten, make your way to the nearest hospital and get vaccinated immediately – rabies is 100% fatal to humans. I am referring to first-hand information here. One of my dear friend’s dogs was bitten by a stray dog here and had to be put down as a result.

Our honest conclusion: Why Lisi Lake is worth a Visit

Lisi Lake is more than just a lake – it’s Tbilisi’s wild Garden of Eden! Whether you’re looking for action or just want to relax and unwind, you’ll find your happiness here. It’s best to visit when there aren’t too many people around. Sure, it’s not perfect (who is?), but its rough edges only make it more interesting. So, grab your friends, your family or just yourself and make your way to this unique natural gem. You won’t regret it!
